Hi All Backers!
While February has come upon us, we wanted to share our update here for the production of the "Ziggy" boot. As mentioned on the previous update "Volume 3", we've finished cutting and stitching all uppers and the boots have been lasted. Now we're in the final stages of this build. Below, you'll see how all stages are coming together and starting to be finalized. What does this all mean in the end? It means we're still on time for our February 15th delivery date and in doing so, we wanted to share with you the phase of the production cycle we're in for the Ziggy. Enjoy!!
At this moment, we're in one of the most time consuming ( yet critical ) stages for this style. The Ziggy boots have been left on the last for a required 24 hours to form the toe shape we need. From there, we're now hand-cutting all outsoles before the Goodyear welt is applied (see below image), then trimmed again after the welt is applied. The Goodyear welt is an age old classic way of making boots, and some shoes, and this does take skilled artisanal workers.
Above, we have some Ziggy's ready for the genuine metal shank to be applied and the excess to be hand trimmed with a sharp knife.
Above, another Ziggy is getting prepped to attach the heel, while below, are some smooth leather outsoles that have been attached. For the shoes below, the Goodyear welt has been applied and outsoles have been stained and they are ready for the final cleaning process. These are some of the first pairs getting finalized. We're excited to now circle back and get the rest of the boots to this final cleaning and inspection phase!
As the boots begin to finish, we're working around the clock to keep our Feb. 15th delivery date. It's our goal to keep all of you updated as we push through this critical phase of the production cycle. Next week, more pairs will start finishing up as we carefully go station to station, process by process, in order to get you the quality boot we've promised. Thanks again for your patience and for your support.
