Sad, Sad News. We learned Dylan Rieder passed away today. I can't really explain the sadness of the passing of this 28-year old young man who was so talented.
Hailing from Westminster, California and skating in Huntington Beach often, he was at the right place to showcase his talents. Skating in Huntington Beach in 1992 is where we heard grumblings of a kid that's ripping and it was Dylan.
I have always held Dylan's influence on skateboarding and personal style in high regards. His talents went further than skating. From Quicksilver prodigy skater to DKNY model, his short life was full of impact. As a young prodigy, he was shot with Mark Oblow, where his skating talents became apparent during those early shoots. Flowing button down shirts while taking on critical lines was like seeing an artist paint.
In this video, you really get to see how his style was so unique. He did have demons and he battled them all. There are many stories, good and bad. Regardless, he had his own vision of what he wanted to do and how he wanted to do it. May we all have the courage to do the same...he will be missed greatly.
An example of this is when it came to shoes. He didn't want the same skate shoe as everyone else. He opted for a thin dressy leather oxford pattern on a soft T.P.R. unit bottom. We admired that greatly, and we still to this day, carry that with us. May we all have the courage to do as we wish..
